Attaching Unistrut to Bar Joist with Joist Wrap Method
Joist Wrap is the third and final method we will go over in our series on how to attach Unistrut channel to bar joist. In situations where the bottom chord cannot be attached to, or where the engineer has specified the top chord as the load bearing chord, the joist wrap method is the preferred way to safely and effectively transfer the load that would normally be born by the bottom chord to the top chord.

How to Attach Unistrut to Bar Joist with Threaded Rod
Unistrut channel is attached to the bottom chord of the bar joist - either above or below the chord. The channel and channel nut rest on one side of the chord, while on the other are the flat plate fitting and mounting hardware. What are Bar Joists?
Let's start at the beginning with what a bar joist is and what it's used for. Steel joist is a structural framing component used in floors and roofs to provide added support and even weight distribution.
Bar joists provide light weight strength that is able to span long distances, between girders, typically running in the same direction as a beam, or even acting as a replacement for beams. A metal joist consists of two parallel chords which are joined to each other via a triangular framework of intersecting supports known as webbing.

As part of an ongoing effort to optimize product offerings and streamline the Unistrut Metal Framing product line, Unistrut has chosen to discontinue a number of products that are no longer in demand for most typical applications. This allows the company to maintain a sharp focus on production of the products that customers truly need, as well as shift some of their attention to the innovation of new products.
Unistrut part number "AEROSPRAY GR" is green touch-up paint used on cosmetic scratches to Perma-Green finish parts and channel. Unfortunately, due to difficulties in sourcing and transporting the aerosol spray-paint, as well as concerns about the limited shelf-life of the product, it became necessary to discontinue selling it. The good news is that a suitable replacement can be obtained from most local hardware stores.
