Connecting Threaded Rod to Unistrut Channel 4 Ways
- Fixed
- Through Channel
- Hanging
- Angled Hanging
Below, we'll go over in a little more detail, the four most common ways (mentioned above) to correctly attach threaded rod to Unistrut channel to form a safe, secure connection.
Threaded Rod Fixed Connection to Unistrut Channel
The fixed connection method involves the use of a channel nut, square washer and hex nut. The underturned edge of the Unistrut channel is sandwiched

Attaching Unistrut to Bar Joist with Joist Wrap Method
Joist Wrap is the third and final method we will go over in our series on how to attach Unistrut channel to bar joist. In situations where the bottom chord cannot be attached to, or where the engineer has specified the top chord as the load bearing chord, the joist wrap method is the preferred way to safely and effectively transfer the load that would normally be born by the bottom chord to the top chord.

How to Attach Unistrut to Bar Joist with Threaded Rod
Unistrut channel is attached to the bottom chord of the bar joist - either above or below the chord. The channel and channel nut rest on one side of the chord, while on the other are the flat plate fitting and mounting hardware. The chord is sandwiched between the assembly components and a length of threaded rod runs through everything.

What are Bar Joists?
Let's start at the beginning with what a bar joist is and what it's used for. Steel joist is a structural framing component used in floors and roofs to provide added support and even weight distribution.
Bar joists provide light weight strength that is able to span long distances, between girders, typically running in the same direction as a beam, or even acting as a replacement for beams. A metal joist consists of two parallel chords which are joined to each other via a triangular framework of intersecting supports known as webbing.

13/16" Strut: Light Duty and High Performance
Unistrut's 13/16" System includes both the P6000 and P7000 Series. Both the P6 and P7 provide the same great performance as their bigger cousins, the P1000 (1-5/8") Series and the A1000 (1-1/4") Series, but with a smaller, lighter footprint that is perfect for light duty applications.
13/16" refers to the system width and both Unistrut P6000 and Unistrut P7000 feature channel and fittings that are 13/16" wide. Channels are all 19 gauge nominal thickness (.040").
Unistrut P6000
P6000 strut has square dimensions (13/16" x 13/16"), while the P6001, back-to-back strut/ double strut, is 13/16" wide by 1-5/8" high. The P6 Series also has several combination (1-5/8 x 13/16") strut channels: P6001A (side-by-side strut), P6001B front-side-to-back-side strut), and P6001C (side-by-side strut). P6000 series strut channel is sold in 16 foot lengths.

1-1/4" Unistrut Framing
Unistrut's 1.25" metal framing system, also referred to as the Unistrut A-Series, is comparable to its more popular 1-5/8" series, but on a slightly smaller scale. In the 1-5/8" series, all strut channel is 1.625" wide. In the a series, strut channel is 1.25" wide. Both series have their own fittings and hardware, designed specifically to be used with that channel width, though the a-series includes a much smaller variety of compatible fitting and hardware options.
What Options Are Available for 1-1/4" Unistrut Channel?
1-1/4" Channel
A series channel is only available as a solid length, without any holes, slots, or perforations. 1-1/4" strut channel is manufactured from cold formed, low-carbon 14 gauge strip steel (Plain: ASTM A1001 SS GR 33, Pre-Galvanized: ASTM A653 GR 33). Standard channel lengths are 10 feet or 20 feet. Available channel finishes include: Perma-Green III (GR), Pre-Galvanized

The Spring Nut is a Key Component of the Unistrut Metal Framing System
The spring nut is very often overlooked. When most people think of metal framing systems, they tend to only think about the Unistrut channel and the Unistrut fittings. Despite that fact, Unistrut hardware is an integral part of the core functionality of the Unistrut system – especially spring nuts and channel nuts. So it’s important to know what your options are, when it comes to choosing the right fasteners for the job.
There are two basic categories that
